Acupressure Information
What is acupressure?
Acupressure is a very ancient healing therapy that has its origins in early China. The ancient therapy has evolved from the same roots as the Oriental arts of shiatsu and acupuncture. Based on oriental medicine systems, a network of energy lines exist throughout the body called ‘meridians’.
These energy meridians are the conduit for the vital force, or ‘qi’, which flows through the body. This qi, or life force, can become blocked, or stagnant and this is what happens when we become unwell. Our health and our wellbeing are dependent on the harmonious flow of qi in our body, nourishing and balancing us at cellular level.
Qi can be balanced through activating the acupoints, small vortices of energy distributed along the length of the meridian flow. Acupressure traditionally uses finger pressure on the acupuncture points to manipulate the energy imbalances.
Shiatsu is related to the 5 elements that correspond to different parts of the body:
Heart=Fire
Kidneys=Water
Spleen=Earth
Lungs=Meta
Liver=Wood

Acupressure for pain relief is a form of acupuncture therapy that you can practise by yourself in your own time. To perform acupressure, you apply pressure to a known acupuncture point and this helps to improve the function of the organ.
How does it work?
The idea, as in acupuncture, is to balance the life energy in the body, which is disturbed when we become ill. Through a series of finger pressures all over the body along the meridians or pathways, shiatsu can rebalance the body’s energies, regulate the function of the organs and improve circulation by releasing the body’s natural energy flow. Unlike other traditional western contact therapies, shiatsu practitioners rarely use the palms of their hands.
Our self-healing products help to replace the need for practitioners, who often use their elbows, knees and feet, as well as their fingers during therapy. Shiatsu can even detect energy imbalances before there are any symptoms and as such shiatsu is widely used as a powerful preventative therapy, which will leave you relaxed and feeling rejuvenated.
Acupressure is free and you can do it yourself at any time, for as long as you like. Our innovative products allow you to enjoy effective treatment from the comfort and privacy of your home and can be performed on oneself or with the aide of a partner.
